Watched Tiger play the last few days at the Chevron. Tiger looked like he was going to run away with it, but had some bogies on Sat and lost his lead to Zac Johnson. On Sunday he went back and forth with Zac until the end. The most interesting part of yesterday’s round was how Tiger played the last few holes. On the par 5 16th where you’d think Tiger with his length off the tee, would have a chance to go for the green in 2, Tiger chose to lay up and play to the strength of Zac. Johnson made birdie and took a 1 stroke lead going into the 17th par 3. Johnson misses putt on 17 that would have given him a 2 stroke lead with 1 hole to play which would have basically won it for him. However Tiger makes a 20 footer, with the pressure on, to tie Zac going into 18. So Zac puts it 20 ft from the flag from the 18th fairway and again with the pressure on, Tiger puts it inside him. Zac misses his putt and with the Tournament on the line and sudden death looming, he drains it. The crowd goes wild!! Fist pump!!, Tiger roar!!, Uppercut Punch!! “F#&K Yeah!!” yell. The slump is over.
What stands out most to me in this win was the decision on 16 to lay up, not take a chance with “going for it” and trusting his wedge game and his putting. That to me more than anything says. “He’s Backkkkkk!”
Watch out in 2012!!!
